Building a Lifetime of Smiles: Supporting Your Child's Dental Health from Early Years to Adulthood

Ensuring your child’s dental health from infancy to their teenage years and beyond is crucial, but with a busy family life, it can be challenging to manage. Balancing work, school, and other commitments often leaves little room to breathe.

We understand the demands on your time and strive to make your dental visits as seamless as possible. Our practice is pleased to offer flexible scheduling and grouped appointments to accommodate your family’s hectic schedule.

As your child grows, they’ll reach many dental milestones, from their first appointment to losing baby teeth, getting adult teeth, and eventually visiting the dentist independently for routine care. We look forward to supporting them every step of the way.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Children usually start cutting their first teeth at around 6 months old. It’s advisable to take them to the dentist by age 1 or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting. If you observe any signs of discomfort or suspect any problems, please schedule an appointment promptly. It’s never too late for your child’s first dental visit.

Baby teeth are vital, not just for holding space for permanent teeth, but also for shaping a child’s face, smile, and confidence. Children who feel at ease smiling and expressing themselves early on tend to maintain these habits. Even mild dental pain, if normalized by children, can have lasting effects on their eating habits, including how they chew, their food preferences, and their appetite.

The duration of the appointment will vary based on the child’s needs and cooperation during the exam. Generally, appointments last about one hour.

It’s important for your toddler, child, or teen to visit the dentist regularly, just like you do. We recommend a checkup and cleaning every 6 months, unless otherwise advised. If your child experiences tooth or jaw pain, frequently rubs or holds their jaw, or avoids hard or cold foods, please schedule an appointment sooner to address any potential issues.

A cavity is a hole in the tooth that can expand over time. It may or may not cause pain or sensitivity. It’s crucial to have cavities treated before they worsen or lead to infection, even in baby teeth. Cavities are typically the result of bacteria and dental plaque, and they can be exacerbated by consuming sugary or acidic foods and drinks. Certain individuals are more susceptible to developing cavities than others.

Your mouth is a complex system that includes not only your teeth but also your tongue, gums, cheeks, glands, ligaments, joints, bones, and more. When one aspect of your oral health declines, it can impact your entire mouth. Swollen, itchy, sore, or bleeding gums may indicate a more serious underlying issue and should not be ignored.

We understand how busy family life can be! To make things easier for you, we offer the option to book multiple appointments side-by-side for the whole family. Give us a call, and we’ll be happy to accommodate you.
